Barry Press, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a unique, patient-focused cosmetic plastic surgeon. His special interest is to provide patients with safe, natural, effective facial rejuvenation that is less invasive and requires a shorter recovery time than traditional surgical procedures. He wants each patient to clearly and thoroughly understand the medical procedure that will best fit his or her desired outcome. In most cases, the patient has more than one option. In addition to evaluation and recommendation, Dr. Press provides his patients with information and guidance so they can make an informed decision about their best option.
His desire to be a plastic surgeon occurred during his general surgery residency at the University of Minnesota. He developed an interest in the possibility of transplanting composite tissues for reconstruction of defects left by injuries or tumors. Using the then-revolutionary anti-rejection agent Cyclosporine-A, he spent two years in laboratory research. He applied for a residency position at New York University's world-famous Institute for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and began his plastic surgery training there in 1985.
Dear Patient,
"Cosmetic surgery is different from other surgical procedures and must be
approached in a different manner to avoid harming the patient. This is the
surgery of happiness. The only reason to undergo cosmetic procedures is
to be happy. Thus, I believe it is absolutely essential that you learn about
your available options and their risks and potential benefits, and you become
comfortable with both me and the selected procedure. If after careful consultation
with you, I feel that your desired procedure will not make you happy, I
will decline to perform it. While very safe, cosmetic surgery carries some
risks - as do all operative treatments. These risks must always be weighed
against the potential benefits. When you are informed about the procedure
and know what to expect, you are more likely to be happier with the results
than those who are not informed."
